Schedule

“Walkin’ the Dog” – a 3-session class to teach your dog to walk nicely on a leash, without pulling or lunging, despite distractions.

Starts: Wed. May 5, Fri. May 7, and Wed. May 19. Fee: $60. Taught by Laura Van Dyne.

New Puppy and Dog Basic Obedience courses, starting May 25, taught by Sue Schmidt.

Puppy class is for pups 3 to 6 months of age. Proof of vaccination is required. You’ll learn the clicker method, which produces amazingly quick, joyful learning – the right foundation for your lifetime relationship with your dog.

Class meets Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m., for 6 weeks. Call or stop by High Tails to enroll – soon, because attendance is limited! You and your puppy will get lots of individual attention! To the first class, bring your vaccination certificate, a plain, flat collar, 6 foot leash, and a supply of whatever is your puppy’s absolute favorite treat! We suggest hot dogs, cut into tiny (1/4 to 1/8 inch) cubes. Don’t feed the puppy for at least 3 hours prior to class – you’ll adjust the volume of his daily ration to allow for the liberal use of treats. Give him a chance to potty before arriving. We’ll issue the clicker on the first night. Fee: $75

Dog class is for dogs 6 months and older. There’s no upper limit! Great for newly adopted dogs, older dogs who need a refresher, or just because it’s fun. You’ll need a flat collar, a six foot leash, and a supply of treats – we suggest hot dogs, cut into ¼ to 1/8 inch cubes, or tiny bits of his very favorite treat. We’ll supply the clicker the first night. Proof of vaccination currency is required the first night. Fee: $75.

Tuesdays with Alecia Evans. From 10:30 to 1:30 every Tuesday, Alecia offers consultations at High Tails on nutrition, intuitive communication, massage and other aspects of canine wellness. For rates or to schedule an appointment during this period, call High Tails at 947-0014.

  • Loose-lease Walking -- designed to make walking anywhere with your dog a pleasure for both of you.

Leslie Rockey from Colorado Animal Rescue (CARE) offers classes in cat care and training -- and, no, cat training is NOT an oxymoron! She also teaches classes for volunteer foster caregivers who assist the shelter in raising kittens to adoptable age.

Alecia Evans, internationally recognized Animal Wellness Consultant, offers workshops at High Tails on Animal Telepathic and Intuitive Communication, Massage, Flower Essence Therapy, Nutrition and Picture-Perfect dog training (not a method of training, per se, but of increasing your focus and awareness as you train, which greatly enhances your results.

We plan to offer short courses in games and sports, such as fly ball, skijoring and musical canine freestyle (dancing with dogs!) from time to time. We welcome your suggestions as we strive to increase the number of fun activities to share with pets!
